Brewgooder and Muntons

As a result of making contact with Brewgooder at an RBS conference in Edinburgh we invited co-founder Alan Mahon to Stowmarket to discuss how we might be able to work together in the future. After hearing a bit more from us we got to hear how Alan and his best mate Josh Littlejohn came up with the unique idea of using beer to fund clean water projects.

Clean Lager

The duo used crowdfunding to start the project and with the backing of almost 1,000 people and over 30 bars, bottle shops and restaurants Clean Water Lager soon became reality.

Founded on 22nd March 2016 (which also happens to be world water day) Brewgooder asked beer drinkers across the world to help them achieve their simple mission – to provide clean water for 1,000,000 people through the power of craft beer by donating 100% of profits to clean water charities. The idea was prompted by the fact that more than 500,000 children die each year from perfectly preventable water-borne diseases.

Clean Water Lager is brewed in Scotland by Brewdog – one of our major customers – at zero margin which means that Brewgooder can pass more from the sale of the beer on to the water projects they support.

When we first heard Alan talk about Brewgooder we knew straight away that we wanted to be involved – but how?

Like us they are passionate about what they do. They do it because they believe in it, they know it is the right thing to do and they are NOT just doing it to tick the ‘CSR box’.  They realise that by creating access to clean water by building wells they are also building the first bridge out of poverty. Who knows we may see our logo on one of those wells soon!
The final details of how we work with Brewgooder are yet to be determined, but we started by donating £4,700 to Alan when he visited last week. A formal presentation with a giant cheque took place – how Alan was going to get that back to Scotland on the plane I don’t know!
